Gender Justice in Canada’s Post-Secondary Sector: how leaders can engage men in post-secondary institutions

In the past year alone, a staggering 47% of students at post-secondary institutions encountered or witnessed discrimination based on gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation, and one in ten women experienced sexual assault.

Universities and colleges have long been acknowledged as critical grounds for gender-based violence prevention. They are spaces where people of all genders come together to work, play, and learn—from the classroom to the sports field—and as such, they offer opportunities to drive change.

So, how can we leverage our positions as leaders in post-secondary settings to create positive and lasting change? How can we work with men to progress gender justice in our educational institutions?

Join our host, Jermal Jones, Associate Director of Library, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Access at the University of Waterloo, on Thursday, February 15th, at 11 am PT. Learn from experienced individuals currently working with men and boys to advance gender justice in Canada's post-secondary institutions.

Webinar | Gender Justice in the Natural Resource Sector: How Leaders can Engage Men

In the Pembina Institute’s 2022 report “Equitable Net-Zero: Recommendations for Advancing Gender Equity in Alberta’s Shift to Net-Zero”, researchers recommend that natural resource industries invest in leadership development for men to become increasingly engaged, knowledgeable, and skillful in advancing gender justice in their respective industries.

We’re inviting leaders in these male-dominant industries to learn more about how they can engage men in violence prevention, advancing equity and inclusion, and promoting mental health and well-being in their industry. Gender justice is tied to not only better outcomes for employees, companies, and industries but also for leaders, personally.

NGM Circle: Masculinity & Healthy Relationships (Calgary)

How have the messages we’ve received about how to “be men” influenced our ability to form and maintain relationships with others? Which skills were we discouraged from learning? On the flip side, how do our experiences in relationships change how we understand what “being a man” (or a woman, or nonbinary person!) is all about? How have we (or how can we) learn the skills needed for healthy relationships? Who can help us learn & practice these skills?

Join us on April 6th at 6pm Mountain Time at the Dorset Pub as we dig into these questions and explore the impact of masculinity on healthy relationships!

Workshop: Naming our Emotions

Sadly, many of us men are not socialized to name, feel, process, or explain our emotions — despite being such an important part of the human experience.

Luckily, we can learn these skills at any age. It's never too late!
