Workshop: Communicating Emotions

Join us for part 4 of the 4-part emotional literacy series! We’re getting curious about emotions, going beyond naming them! Don’t worry if you didn’t attend the other workshops in this series. You will be able to understand what’s happening!

Emotional Literacy is an important set of skills to develop if we want to have healthy, deep, and meaningful relationships.

Emotional Literacy skills are needed to identify, understand, communicate, and regulate one’s own emotions, and to identify, understand, and communicate about the emotions of others, as well as co-regulate with others!

In the first few Emotional Literacy workshops that we’ve done, we’ve been working hard to untangle our own emotions. We’ve been asking questions like how can we identify what we’re feeling?, and once identified, what need is this emotion signalling to me?

Now, we’re turning toward expression.

What are some ways that we can communicate our emotions and needs that feel good to us, and good for others? How can we learn to choose the right moment to express our emotions and needs?

It can feel pretty vulnerable to say how we feel, or ask for what we need. How can we ask for help and patience from people in our lives? What if we share our emotions and someone reacts in a way we didn’t expect?

Join us, and let’s get into it!

In this two hour workshop, we will practice:

  • Identifying our values & boundaries

  • Practicing different phrases we can say to communicate our emotions and needs in ways that align with our values and boundaries (and the boundaries of others!)

  • Identifying who we can go to in our lives for support (and which kinds of support)

  • Exploring & practicing different ways to respond when someone does not react well to us sharing our emotions and needs

Transformation is an ongoing journey, and this is another step! Together, we are learning to:

  • Understand ourselves and others better

  • Respond intentionally (rather than react)

  • Get clear on what we want and how to ask for it

  • Be better able to support the people we care about

Join us on Saturday June 17th at 11:00 am Mountain Time for the last workshop in our Emotional Literacy series! (Don’t worry if you didn’t attend the first workshop in this series. You will be able to understand what’s happening!)

See you there!
