Time for another Deep Dive, everyone! 🌊
Deep Dives are member-led, one-hour discussions on wide-ranging topics — but always linked in some way to masculinities, gender equity, mental wellness, and/or healthy relationships.
Bring your coffee and settle in for a great conversation. Or, if you've got a busy day, you're welcome to join from your phone while on the go!
This time, we're taking y’all to new heights! That’s right, we’re talking about the impact of gender stereotypes and expectations when it comes to our height. Men, women, and nonbinary folks of different heights all experience the world differently — but why is that? Is heightism (tall privilege) real? What does it have to do with patriarchy? Let’s get into it.
Some of the questions we are keen to explore:
What are some common gender stereotypes about height and gender? How do they impact us?
Why do you think there’s an association between height and masculinity? What does this mean for us? (What does it mean for tall women? Or for short men? Or vice versa? What about other people?)
How do you think your gender socialization influenced how you felt about your height? Or other people’s height?
Has anything changed how you felt about height throughout your life? Why or why not? What about your ideas around gender and height?
Let’s get intersectional! Height isn’t just impacted by ideas we have about gender, but also about race, ability, and more… how do other stereotypes or expectations impact us as we consider our (and others’) height?
If height is important – not because of biology but because of society – what does that mean for us going forward?
And we'll go from there!
Hope to see you there On Sunday April 14 at 10 am PT / 11 am MT / 1 pm ET! 🙌
