In today’s cultural climate, backlash against diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and gender justice work is increasingly loud. As this harmful rhetoric takes hold, our ability to build trust with the men and boys we seek to engage in this work is more essential than ever.
Trust is the foundation of any meaningful relationship, and we need meaningful, supportive relationships in order to have the transformative conversations with men and boys that are necessary to support them in defining healthier ideas about masculinity, and to encourage their active participation in the gender justice movement.
By building trust, we create space for vulnerability, allowing us to reflect and explore new ideas in the safety of supportive relationships. With trust, we can achieve lasting progress towards gender justice.
Led by Lana Wells, the Brenda Strafford Chair in the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social Work, and Fellow at the School of Public Policy, with support from Jake Stika, Executive Director at Next Gen Men, this workshop will explore how we can continue building a strong and impactful movement despite rising polarization. We'll focus on strategies for self-care to ensure the sustainability of our work, as well as approaches to building trust when engaging men and boys in the face of backlash in the broader climate.
In this workshop, you will discover:
✅ Practical strategies to protect your well-being and sustain your energy in challenging times
✅ How to remain relevant and impactful, even in the face of resistance
✅ Key approaches to building trust with men and boys for meaningful engagement in gender justice work
Through discussion, role-play, and real-world examples, you'll leave this workshop with practical tools to continue to be sustainable and effective in engaging men and boys in gender justice.
