NGM Thoughts 18: Post-Gender World

I don’t think we’ll ever be in a post-gender world, nor do I necessarily think that we would be best served by one. Kind of like when someone says ‘I don’t see race’—this could lead to denying someone’s lived experience of their identity.

What I believe we should aim for is a world where the function of gender is transformed into one of description and not definition.

In this world, men, women, trans, and non-binary folk would have the freedom describe themselves however they wish, but their function in the world would not be limited to pre-conceived notions of what that label entails.
