Board Position | Treasurer & Finance Committee Chair
BOARD OF DIRECTORS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Next Gen Men (NGM), is looking for dynamic and skilled leaders to join our Board of Directors. NGM is seeking nominations for the Treasurer & Finance Committee Chair role to be elected to the Next Gen Men Board of Directors.
Next Gen Men is working towards a future where boys & men feel less pain, and cause less harm by promoting positive masculinities, mental wellness, healthy relationships, and gender equity among youth, in communities, and at workplaces across Canada.
Deadline for Expressions of Interest: October 31st 2024
Term: 2 years
Thereafter, terms will revert to those dictated by the bylaws, with a maximum of three consecutive terms.
Treasurer & finance committee responsibilities include:
Sitting on NGM’s Board of Directors and acting as Chair of the Finance Committee
Financial Ambassador and Consultation
Report to, advise, and provide wise counsel to the Chair
Create awareness among the Board on the organization’s financial performance and sustainability; disclose all relevant financial information to the Board
Support the Executive Director with financial strategies, operations, and act as a sounding board for any finance opportunities and challenges that arise within the organization
Provide advice and guidance to the Executive Director with respect to overseeing funding and grant submissions
Act as custodian of all the investments and funds of the organization
Act as a signing officer
In consultation with the Secretary, ensure legal and insurance obligations are met
Engage in risk assessments of the organization and Board and create mitigation strategies
Recommend to the Board the need for a review or renewal of the auditing services provided
Develop & maintain knowledge of NGM’s operations
Budgetary Preparation and Reviews
Collaborate with the Executive Director in the establishment and review of the annual budget and ensure approval by the Board, review financial results, and monitor against budget
Ensure quarterly review of the budget (actuals vs plan) by the Board
Review year-end financials with external auditor and facilitate review with the Board
Ensure that excess funds and reserves are properly held and invested
Record-Keeping
Ensure that the organization maintains the appropriate financial books and records and that these are accurate and up-to-date
Policy
Maintain a Finance Policy that aligns with the organization's needs, adapting to changing priorities and growth strategies.
Oversee the development of financial policies, their review and approval by the board, and implementation at the operational level
In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a director, the Board Treasurer shall serve as the Chair of the Finance & Risk Committee.
Finance Committee Leadership
Understand NGM’s strategic framework and the committee’s purpose
Create an inclusive, collaborative and productive environment for committee members
Annually develop the committee’s annual work plan that aligns with strategic priorities of the Board, that builds a sustainable framework for the organization and uses a future-thinking and transformative lens
Oversee implementation of the committee’s annual work plan by providing guidance to committee members
Communicate key decisions made at the Board level that affect that committee’s work
Regularly update the Board on the committee’s progress against their annual work plan
Recruit and onboard new committee members as needed
Mentor Committee Vice Chair and ensure succession planning for the Committee Chair role
Host mid-year and year-end check-ins with each committee member to ensure satisfaction and productivity
Finance Committee Administration
Prepare monthly meeting calendar for the year including assignment of Minute taking responsibility
Prepare agendas and meeting materials
Chair all Committee meetings
Additional preferences:
Candidates must possess CPA designation and be in good standing with their provincial governing body
Strong finance background with Treasurer experience in a Not For Profit preferred
Board Directors are encouraged to become an annual or monthly Next Gen Menber
Geographical representation across Canada, with a particular interest in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario
Previous governance experience
Experienced in or curious about the gender equality space
Experience with growing organizations from startup to scaling organizations
Eligibility:
18 years of age or older, have the power under law to contract, not an employee or paid contractor of Next Gen Men, and have an interest in, or passion for gender and equality may be nominated.
