  • Deconstructing the Man Box: Examined the unique pressures facing masculine-identifying youth and the particular contexts where harmful attitudes and behaviours are reinforced at school.

  • Seeing Boys as Relational Learners: Focused on the centrality of relationship and the importance of relational pedagogy for engaging boys at school.

  • Embracing Resistance as the Site of Transformation: Explored how to respond in tough situations by anchoring ourselves, practicing mindfulness and repositioning ourselves to stand alongside even our most challenging students.

  • Overcoming Barriers to Boys’ Mental Health: Discussed how cultural narratives of masculinity can lead to relational disconnection, emotional illiteracy, increased risk and decreased help-seeking behaviours as boys grow up.

  • Teaching Boys About Consent: Focused on the reasons why consent education often isn’t as relevant, resonant or realistic as it should be for boys.

  • Working With Boys and Restorative Justice: Explored one of the most important frameworks being practiced by schools who are leading the way on gender justice and positive masculinity: restorative justice in education.

  • Making Sense of Senseless Violence: Discussed the roots of male-led violence, including aggrieved entitlement, bullying and school culture, critical media literacy and online radicalization.

  • Exploring the Intersections of Masculinity: Explored the multifaceted impacts of race, gender, class and ability on boys’ experiences with engagement and vulnerability at school.
