NGM Boys+ Club Terms of Service

Whenever a young person joins the NGM Boys+ Club Discord server, we go through series of registration steps, including going through our Code of Conduct, discussing how to access help and reading through our Privacy Policy. These policies are hosted directly on Discord to make them easily accessible to youth members. We’ve copied them here to make them accessible to interested adults as well.

All participants on the Discord server are then screened with a phone or video call before they are given access in order to ensure that it continues to be a safe place for our young people.

Code of Conduct

Last update: April 13, 2023

Hard Rules

Our highest priority is the wellbeing of the youth in this space. If you break any of these rules, Facilitators can kick you or ban you from the server.

  • No homophobia, sexism or racism.

  • No excessive swearing or swearing at anyone.

  • No harassing anyone in DMs.

  • No sharing private information about members outside of the server.

Respect Agreement

In order for this to be a safe space for everyone to feel comfortable being themselves, we treat each other with dignity and respect. If you fall short of these norms, Members or Facilitators may point it out, message you privately, mute you or kick you depending on how serious or repetitive your behaviour is.

  • We bring each other up instead of putting each other down.

  • If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.

  • No images, videos, jokes or statuses that are homophobic, sexist, racist, ableist, sexual, suicidal or violent, or make light of any of those topics.

  • No spamming the same person or @ group repeatedly, or posting the same message to every channel at once.

A Note for Teenagers

If you’re a high school student, you inherently have more power and influence than youth who are younger than you. We’re counting on you to uphold these group norms and extend the kind of patience and positivity to them that you would have wanted from your role models at that age.

Privacy Policy

Last update: April 24, 2023

We want to make sure you understand and agree with how we collect, use, and share your information when you participate in NGM Boys+ Club. That’s what this Privacy Policy and Discord’s Privacy Policy are for.

Don’t feel like reading all this? Unsure about something you’ve read here?

  • Get in touch with @Jonathon to chat about it before you finish signing up.

  • Consider whether you want to talk to a parent/guardian about any questions you have with this policy or Discord.

  • If you agree and sign up, you can ALWAYS change your mind—just let @Jonathon know if you want us to stop collecting, using, or sharing your personal information, and we’ll make it happen. Depending on the info, you might not be able to continue in NGM Boys+ Club. We’re always happy to chat about why we need certain info to allow you to participate.

Younger than 12 years old?

  • You will need a parent or guardian to register for you.

TL;DR: If you feel unsure about anything, get in touch or talk to a parent/guardian before signing up!

What personal information do you collect, and how do you use it?

If you register for NGM Boys+ Club by yourself, we collect:

  • Your first and last name, so we know who you are.

  • Your birthday, to make sure you’re old enough to sign up.

  • Your city and province, to help make sure you’re okay if you’re in danger.

  • Your phone number or emergency contact, to help make sure you’re okay if you’re in danger.

If your parent/guardian registers for you, we ALSO collect:

  • Your parent/guardian’s name, so we know who they are.

  • Your parent/guardian’s email and/or phone number, to reply to any questions they ask, and to help make sure you’re okay if you’re in danger.

TL;DR: We collect basic identifiable information to know who you are, where you are, and how we can send support to you if needed.

Who do you share my personal information with, and why?

Sometimes we might have to share your info to prevent harm, to respond to legal requests, or to follow certain laws. For example:

  • If you’re in danger or at risk of harming yourself or others, we may share your info to help prevent harm (like with support services, law enforcement, your parent/guardian or emergency contact).

  • If we get a legal request (like a search warrant or an order from a court), we may have to share your info with the people making the request.

  • If there is a law that says we have to share personal information in certain situations, we may have to share your info so we don’t break the law.

TL;DR: We may have to share your info to prevent harm, or to follow the law in rare special situations.

What rights and choices do I have over my personal information?

By getting in touch with @Jonathon, you can:

  • Access your info that we have.

  • Update or correct your info if there are errors in it.

  • Decide you want us to stop collecting, using, or sharing your info. Depending on the info, you might not be able to continue in NGM Boys+ Club. We’re always happy to chat about why we need certain info to allow you to participate.

TL;DR: You can access, correct, or tell us to stop collecting and using your info.

How do you protect my personal information, and what are the risks to it if I participate in NGM Boys+ Club?

Keeping your personal information safe is really important to us. To help protect it, we:

  • Make sure everyone at Next Gen Men and NGM Boys+ Club members follow rules about keeping your info confidential and safe.

  • Use strong tools to help protect your info where it is stored.

  • Remove personal information for inactive members once a year.

We try our best to protect your personal information, but it’s not always possible to keep it 100% safe. Some risks to your info if you sign up are:

  • A data breach, which means your info could be shared elsewhere.

  • Someone breaking the rule, to keep info confidential (if someone at Next Gen Men or NGM Boys+ Club shares your info with someone without our permission).

  • If you post on public Discord servers or channels, Discord users can see what you post, and could share it with people you didn’t mean for it to be shared with.

TL;DR: We do our best to protect your info, but there are still risks that we can’t control.

What if I have questions about something in this Privacy Policy?

If you have any questions or want to chat about anything you’ve read in this Privacy Policy, message or call @Jonathon, or email jonathon@nextgenmen.ca. We are always happy to chat, and will let you know if we make any important changes to this Privacy Policy.
