The NGM Cookbook: Summer Edition
Those who know Next Gen Men know that—along with Courage, Equity, Curiosity and Empathy—we operate with the honorary fifth value of Food. To celebrate that, plus the arrival of a vaccinated, vegetable-enriched summer, here’s something our community made to share with the world: a collection of the recipes we love the best.
Red Curry Morel Chowder
From Roger D
“I just tried a recipe this week that I have to share with you!” When we hear this from our friend Roger, we know what comes next is a great recipe recco. What makes this sweet-and-savoury Thai-inspired soup a standout idea for a summer meal is the fact that morel mushrooms, at this time of year, have come into season and can be gotten fresh from local grocers, Roger tells us. “The combination with the wild rice is superb, giving it a nutty flavour.“
Crispy Chickpea Gyros
From Veronika I.
NGM Community Manager Veronika Ilich served up this simple yet oh-so-effective recipe for a light, fresh summer dinner that doesn’t make you spend too much time in the kitchen. “We make these chickpea gyros a lot ‘cause they’re VERY easy,” says Veronika. If you’re looking for something that’s as swift as it is savoury, and as fresh as it is affordable, give this recipe a try: it gives a complete but straightforward account of the herbs and spices that make this dish a winner!
Easy Sheet Pan Tomato Herb Pizza
From Jake S.
One of the many great things about working on a team led by the likes of NGM Executive Jake Stika, is that Jake is a famous, outrageous foodie, with a love of all things delightful and beautiful that can come out of a kitchen. On our team, we share recipes with each other each week, under a recurring ‘watercooler’ thread, so that we can all share in this common ‘love language.’
This week, Jake’s contribution was this jaw-dropping pizza. And we’re without words. If it were possible, we would trade for about 1,000 of them, in exchange for the image of this pizza. And that would be the full issue of that week’s Future of Masculinity newsletter, and it would be so delicious y’all would say, “Social justice never tasted so good.”
Vegan Crunchwrap Supreme
From Jeremiah L.
“I feel like this thread is long overdue,” is what our pal and volunteer Jeremiah replied on Inner Circle when we first put out the call for foodies among our menbers. But only one word would do when it came to these Crunchwraps: magical. The recipe says they’re Taco Bell-inspired, but really, you could infuse your own inspirations. Case in point: Veronika, NGM’s Community Manager, points out you can tweak the cheese to suit your own (fanatical?) relationship with the udderly delightful dairy section.
A light brush of oil and a quick bake in the oven is what gives the Crunchwraps their crunch, while what makes this recipe next-level is all the options, alternatives, and instructions it gives for incorporating vegan or vegetarian ingredients—check out the homemade vegan sour cream recipe, for sure!
From the Future of Masculinity weekly newsletter, where our community’s hearts and minds come together each week to do the work, tell the stories, and build the blueprint for a future where men and boys experience less pain and cause less harm.
